At Boston’s airports and seaports, College of Built Environments (CBE) alumnus Alireza Borhani (Ph.D.) is changing how complex infrastructure projects take shape. His leadership in digital innovation has now earned national recognition on Autodesk’s 40 Under 40: Champions of Construction list for 2025.
At Massport, Borhani helps keep one of the country’s busiest transportation systems running smarter. From airport terminals to waterfront piers, he’s leading a digital transformation that connects architects, engineers, and builders through a shared platform for design and data.
Under his guidance, Autodesk Construction Cloud became Massport’s go-to system for managing projects, and new digital standards are now shaping every build across the agency. The changes are saving time, improving communication, and setting a new model for how public projects get done.
As a CBE Ph.D. student, Borhani explored how digital design and real-world construction can better inform each other. His work focused on how data and technology help project teams make faster, smarter decisions—reducing waste, improving efficiency, and creating spaces that work better for the people who use them.
Beyond his work at Massport, Borhani helps shape the future of the industry through national committees focused on Building Information Modeling and digital twin integration—developing standards that will guide how infrastructure is planned and managed for years to come.
