The College of Built Environments is proud to share that the University of Washington chapter of the National Organization of Minority Architecture Students (NOMAS) has been named the 2025 Chapter of the Year, a national recognition honoring excellence in leadership, advocacy, and community engagement among more than 120 chapters across the country.
The award was announced at the NOMAS National Conference, held October 8–12 in Kansas City, Missouri. The recognition celebrates the UW NOMAS chapter’s continued work to create a more inclusive and supportive environment within architectural education and to champion diversity and equity in the design professions.
Rick Mohler, FAIA, Chair of the Department of Architecture, said the recognition reflects the depth of leadership and collaboration within the student chapter. He shared, “This is an extraordinary recognition of our students’ leadership, vision, and impact, both here at UW and in the broader architecture community. The UW NOMAS chapter continues to demonstrate how design and advocacy intersect, inspiring positive change in our college and beyond.”
For NOMAS UW President Davien Graham, the honor is deeply meaningful. “Being named Chapter of the Year is a reflection of our shared commitment to creating a more equitable and inclusive design community,” Graham said. “We are deeply grateful to our members, mentors, and supporters at CBE who continue to uplift and encourage us.”
The national award underscores the College of Built Environments’ commitment to supporting student experiences that foster leadership, collaboration, and advocacy. Through organizations like NOMAS UW, students gain valuable opportunities to build community, develop professional connections, and lead efforts that shape a more equitable future for the built environment.
