The University of Washington chapter of the National Organization of Minority Architecture Students (NOMAS) has been named the 2025 Chapter of the Year, a national recognition honoring excellence in leadership, advocacy, and community engagement among more than 120 chapters across the country.

The award was announced at the NOMAS National Conference, held October 8–12 in Kansas City, Missouri. It celebrates the UW NOMAS chapter’s sustained efforts to create a more inclusive and supportive environment within architectural education while advancing and championing diversity and equity across the design professions.

For NOMAS UW President Davien Graham, the award carries deep significance. “Being named Chapter of the Year is a reflection of our shared commitment to creating a more equitable and inclusive design community,” Graham said. “We are deeply grateful to our members, mentors, and supporters at CBE who continue to uplift and encourage us.”

Rick Mohler, FAIA, Chair of the Department of Architecture, said the honor reflects the strength of leadership and collaboration within the chapter. He shared, “This is an extraordinary recognition of our students’ leadership, vision, and impact, both here at UW and in the broader architecture community. The UW NOMAS chapter continues to demonstrate how design and advocacy intersect, inspiring positive change in our college and beyond.”

The national award underscores the College of Built Environments’ commitment to fostering student leadership, collaboration, and advocacy. Through organizations like UW NOMAS, students build community, develop professional networks, and lead efforts that help shape a more equitable future for the built environment.
