The College of Built Environments (CBE) is pleased to welcome its new Mental Health Counselor, Evalynn Fae Taganna Romano (she/her). Evalynn joins CBE with longstanding ties to the University of Washington (UW) and a deep commitment to student well-being.

Evalynn’s connection to UW began long before her professional career. She is a proud daughter of UW custodians whose combined service spans nearly 60 years. She is also a UW alumna who earned a BA in Psychology and later completed both a Master of Public Health and a Master of Social Work. Over the past two decades she has worked at the University in a variety of roles, gaining broad experience supporting students, staff, and campus communities.

As a first-generation college graduate and the daughter of immigrants, Evalynn brings a lived understanding of the challenges that many students face as they navigate academic and personal pressures. She has experience across different cultures and languages including Tagalog, Waray-Waray, and Khmer or Cambodian. Her approach to care centers on cultural humility, access, and practical support.

This year, Evalynn will provide a range of mental health services within CBE. Students can access free confidential consultation sessions through the “Let’s Talk” program along with short-term therapy for more focused support. Faculty and staff may also consult with her about how to best support student mental health in classrooms and advising settings. In addition, she will help connect members of the CBE community with mental health resources across campus and in the broader region.

Evalynn is available for both in-person and virtual appointments Monday through Thursday.
