The Furniture Studio: Design. Build. Create.
The Furniture Studio at the College of Built Environments offers students a hands-on opportunity to design and fabricate custom furniture. Whether you’re a seasoned maker or a beginner, you’ll learn to work with wood and metal in our state-of-the-art fabrication lab.
Each quarter, students bring their ideas to life—balancing design, materials, costs, and deadlines—culminating in a finished piece by the end of the term. The experience is immersive, with students dedicating evenings and weekends to sketching, prototyping, and refining their work.
Rooted in the American “Studio Furniture” movement, this course emphasizes craftsmanship, creativity, and limited-production design. Since 2014, the Scan Design Foundation has proudly supported the studio, fostering innovation at the intersection of architecture and landscape architecture.
