The College of Built Environments (CBE) is pleased to announce Julie Parrett, Associate Teaching Professor, as the Interim Chair for the Department of Landscape Architecture, effective October 14, 2024.
Julie has been a dedicated member of the UW community since 2003 and has consistently held teaching and administrative positions since 2010, earning a strong reputation as a student-centered educator. Prior to joining UW, she taught at the Penn School of Design. Julie holds a Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania, a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Virginia, and was a Fellow with the CHORA Institute of Architecture and Urbanism in London.
In addition to her academic achievements, Julie has served on the Seattle Design Commission and Seattle’s Public Art Advisory Council. As a licensed landscape architect with over 25 years of experience, her professional practice has spanned public projects ranging from neighborhood parks to large-scale urban planning initiatives. Her work, both in practice and teaching, is often rooted in design activism, with a focus on reimagining urban public spaces.
“Julie’s extensive experience in both professional practice and academia uniquely positions her to lead the department during this transition. Her student-centered approach and passion for public space design will be invaluable as we move forward and continue shaping future generations of landscape architects,” said Ken Yocom, former Chair of the Department and incoming Interim Dean.
Please join us in congratulating Julie on her new role as Interim Chair.
